Seafood

Grimsby's fishing history is built into the very fabric of the town, from its rich trawler heritage, the once vibrant dock areas and arguably the best fish and chips in the country. Today, Grimsby is one of the most important towns in the UK for the processed fish industry, directly employing 5,500 local people. The cluster group Seafood Grimsby & Humber suggest that if everyone in the UK ate just one more piece of fish each week it would hugely enhance the economy in the Great Grimsby area. Whether that is one more fish finger sandwich or a tasty fish cake for Monday's dinner, it could make a massive difference to the local economy.

There is no doubt that fish processing is very big here and the bulk of the fish brought to Grimsby is coming from Norway, Iceland and the Faroe Islands. Alongside my campaign to encourage people to eat more fish, I will continue the fight to take control of our rich waters, landing more fish in Grimsby as a result.
