I'm delighted that the Government through the Department of Transport has agreed to pump in an additional £2.9million to repair and preserve the Corporation Bridge. It is is one of the most iconic landmarks in Grimsby with a rich history and it is right that it is saved for future generations. We must look after the heritage sites that we have left in the town; they are part of our history and give our town the rich character that it often overlooked.
It was good to visit the bridge on Friday with Stewart Swinburn, Conservative Councillor for Immingham Ward and also portfolio holder for environment and transport with North East Lincs Council @NELCouncil to see and hear at first hand how the money will be spent.
I will continue to work closely with the local council and business to help ensure that Central Government remains on track to deliver record investment in Great Grimsby. The future here is very positive - over the next two-three years we are finally going to see some of the changes that have been long overdue.
