I was pleased to take part in the launch of the Park Ward by-election campaign recently, spending some time distributing leaflets and talking to residents together with our candidate Marian Boyd, who is a Park Ward resident. Alongside other councillors, who made a great effort to turn out in support of Marian, we took to the streets of Park Ward to gain insight from those who live there about what is going well within the ward, and how Marian may be able to better support residents, with the help of sitting councillors Daniel Wescott and Paul Silvester.
This upcoming by-election has been called following the very sad passing of Park Ward Councillor Debbie Woodward. Debbie was a shining example of everything a councillor should be, and will be missed tremendously by myself and many others in Grimsby and, indeed, North East Lincolnshire. She was always a true advocate for her ward, which she loved very much, as well as the people within it, and this advocacy never diminished, even toward the end of her life. Debbie leaves a legacy which deserves to be honoured, and I am confident that we have found a great candidate in Marian to do just that, and to do justice to the role which she will fill.
On the door, residents were very welcoming toward Marian and I – even though it was a Saturday morning! It was encouraging to see Marian engaging with the residents and really taking in their questions and concerns; there is no doubt that she will make a fantastic councillor. She is delighted to have been selected to stand.
“I am really excited to be Park Ward’s candidate for this upcoming by-election. It would be an honour to represent such a great ward, and it is so encouraging to have already received positive feedback on the doorstep.”
I urge all Park Ward residents to use their vote on 17th February, and to use it for Marian, a candidate who will work with and for the people of Park Ward towards a better future, building on the foundations laid by the brilliant Councillor Debbie Woodward.
