It was a pleasure to visit Gleeson Homes’ Macaulay Park development off Cromwell Road. It’s a brown field site, so a reuse of previously used land and is a great location near to the swimming pool and local shops on the Willows estate, and within easy reach of the town centre.
I met with Wayne Sutton, Regional Directing Manager, and his great team. We talked about the companies’ ethos - creating quality, affordable housing. This development is particularly aimed at first time buyers who make up around eighty percent of their customers. I was invited tour of their show homes, chatting to staff about why the properties. The tour concluded with me cutting a ribbon to open the new Macaulay Park.
Gleeson also offer apprenticeship programmes. I spoke with Bethany Marshall, who initially joined Gleeson as an Apprentice Sales Administrator, and has now been promoted to a Field Sales Manager role. I also chatted to her colleague Abbie Davis, who has experienced similar success through her Apprenticeship, now in her role as a Marketing Coordinator. Gleason also offer Apprenticeships in trade skills such as Construction.
While talking to Wayne, he explained that the company are “Big on bringing youngsters through and are keen to be taking on even more apprentices at the site.” He stressed the importance of employing more Apprentices into the housebuilding industry, where there are huge demands for new entrants. We discussed working together in the future as they continue their commitment to the region, working on new sites across Lincolnshire and are looking to employ more Apprentices in Grimsby.
Thank you to Wayne, Lee, Maureen, Bethany, Lisa, Ged, Kathryn, and Abbie for their hard work and for being so accommodating.
