Franklin College was successful in a recent bid for capital funding to help in rebuilding work for the college. I met with headteacher Peter Kennedy to discuss the funding, but I also have meetings with Peter on a regular basis to discuss what we can do to ensure that we’re getting teenagers into good quality jobs.
I primarily talked with Peter about planning some skills events and also met with some students who were there for their AS and A Level exams. I talked with them about their aspirations and what they were aiming to do after their time at college and it was positive to discover more about what the students wanted to do and establish a good dialogue.
It was also really good to see the amount of work that Franklin College does to ensure that its students get into local, professional work. I’m going to be working with the college and the schools to nurture more industry links in the new year.
