E5 are looking to develop complimentary housing in and around Diana, Princess of Wales Hospital on King’s Park in Scartho Top. E5 specialise in producing what’s termed as ‘step down care’, which includes retirement homes and homes for people with disabilities. This is so that people who have been in hospital can have additional assistance to help develop them back into independent living.
I met with E5 boss Kevin Stevens and he showed me some of the ideas and plans that E5 have in developing this new site. I feel that we should always welcome developers into the area, especially developers who haven’t worked here before, because we want them to feel confident that we are a positive, outward-looking area and that we want to see new types of development for Grimsby.
The different ways that E5 think about property development makes this an exciting project, especially as Grimsby has an increasingly older population. E5 consider such features in their homes as wider doorways for wheelchair users and generally making sure that the insides of the houses take people’s disabilities into account.
This project is something that E5 specialise in. They have previously started a similar development in Dudley and they have links with the Grimsby area through investment work in Immingham Docks. They see Grimsby as having the potential for growth and opportunity with the right land that can make these kinds of developments realistic. It’s great to see not only developers who want to come and build here, but that they want to build developments that will make a difference to people’s lives. Projects like this are quite exciting for the town.
