It's been a busy week again in Parliament. I have been working with colleagues on the Online Safety Bill and the Levelling Up Bill. I support making directors of social media companies being personally liable for not removing illegal content online. I also supported the amendment to the Levelling Up Bill to support onshore wind farms where communities support them.
I met the Norwegian Ambassador and heard about the very positive relationship the UK has with them, especially with regard to secure supply. The UK has the most robust energy supply of all of the EU countries because of its longterm energy contracts. Norway supples 40% of the UK’s gas.
I also met with Humber Bank companies who are working with Phillips 66 on renewable fuels-recycling cooking oil into aviation fuel supplying British Airways. They make graphite battery coke for electric car batteries and mobile phones. They produce hydrogen, so-called ‘green hydrogen’ which is made from wind generated electricity. We also discussed Carbon Capture, which is a very exciting new development locally to reduce 50% of the UK’s industrial carbon emissions. All of these developments are key to our local economy and will brig may jobs to the local area.
In the constituency, I visited Lisle Marsden School to meet the children who entered this year's Christmas Card competition. I also met with some constituents on Friday in Freeman Street Market to discuss issues with them. People are very keen to see positive change in the town, so I am working on a range of initiatives to develop new skills and jobs.
